A full day of work means nothing if nine hours went to one thing and everything else got fifteen minutes each.

Whether you're studying for exams, shipping client work, or juggling a few skills at once, it's easy to lose the balance. A good day on one topic quietly becomes a bad week for another, and you don't notice until the gap is hard to close.

TimeCraft keeps a plain record of where your hours actually went — compared against targets you set yourself — so the imbalance shows up before it becomes a problem.

Everything it does. Nothing it doesn't.

No billing tools, no client invoices, no team features. Just what one person needs to track focus.

Topic timers

Predefine every topic once. Click to start, switch, pause, or resume — paused time never counts against you.

Targets tied to real topics

Set an hour goal for a day, week, month, or any custom range — linked to an actual topic, so progress is always calculated from what you really tracked.

Crash recovery

Forgot to stop a timer, or the app closed unexpectedly? It's detected on the next launch, with a clean way to fix it.

Streaks

Consecutive days tracked are counted automatically, so consistency stays visible — not just total hours.

Reports for any range

Today, this week, this month, or a fully custom date range — pull a year of history in one view.

Local by design

Everything lives in one file on your computer. No account, no cloud, no one else sees your hours.

Runs by double-click

Build it once into a standalone app — no Python, no command line needed day-to-day, on Windows or Mac.

Export anytime

One click saves any report to CSV, so you can keep your own long-term archive.

Optional AI insight

Built-in insights work offline by default. Connect a free-tier AI provider if you want sharper, written commentary instead.

How it stacks up against what you're doing now

A spreadsheet works until it doesn't. Paid trackers work until the invoice does.

Why tracking by topic actually changes behavior

Three simple mechanics, not motivational theory.

01

What gets measured gets noticed

A vague sense of "I studied a lot today" hides which subjects were actually skipped. A number next to each topic removes the guesswork.

02

Weekly review beats daily guilt

Single days are noisy — one long session can mean nothing by Friday. A weekly total per topic is what actually shows a pattern worth acting on.

03

Streaks reward showing up, not intensity

Consistent, moderate sessions compound faster than occasional marathons. A streak counter keeps that front of mind, separate from the hours number.

Set up once. Use it every day.

Run it with Python in two minutes, or build it once into a double-click app.

Get it running

Install Python once (free, guided installer), then run the app directly — or build it into a standalone .exe / .app with one script, so it opens by double-click from then on with no Python or terminal involved.

Add your topics

List everything you're working on — as many as you want, each gets its own color. Rename or recolor any of them later with a right-click.

Start, pause, switch

Click a topic to begin timing it. Pause for a real break without losing accuracy, or click a different topic to switch instantly.

Set a target, then check your reports

Tie an hour goal to a topic for any date range, and watch progress update live. Then open Reports or the day-by-day Breakdown to see where the hours actually went.

Reports built to change what you do next.

Not just a log of hours — a reading of where they went and what to adjust.

Every report ends with a plain-language read of the numbers — the same way you'd explain it to yourself if you sat down and did the math by hand.

It names the topic getting the most attention, the one getting the least, and whether this period is trending up or down against the one before it.

Least time on "English" (11%) — raise it if it's a priority. You studied 12% more than last week.

Questions

Is it really free?
Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no feature paywall.
Do I need an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for — download it and run it.
Does it work on both Windows and Mac?
Yes, it runs the same way on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Where is my data stored?
Locally, in a single file on your own computer — a fixed, standard location (like %APPDATA%\TimeCraft on Windows) so it stays put no matter where you move the app itself. It's never uploaded anywhere.
Can I use it on two computers?
Yes — copy that one database file between machines (USB, Dropbox, Google Drive) to carry your history with you.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Run it with a free Python install and one command, or build it once into a standalone app you double-click from then on — no command line needed day-to-day. Full steps are included in the download.
Can I set a goal for just one topic, not everything combined?
Yes — each target you create is tied to one specific topic (or "All Topics" if you want an overall goal), and its progress is calculated only from that topic's tracked time.
Does it use AI?
Insights work fully offline by default, for free. If you want AI-written commentary instead, you can optionally connect your own free-tier API key — nothing is sent anywhere unless you turn that on.
